Plan listings from Jio and Airtel mention unlimited 5G data for eligible users in supported areas. The wording hides three separate conditions.
1. Your phone must support 5G
A 4G-only phone cannot use a 5G network. Check your phone’s specifications for the 5G bands your operator uses.
2. Your area must have coverage
5G is available in many cities but not everywhere. The operator’s app or website usually has a coverage checker.
3. Your plan must be eligible
Operators decide which plans qualify. The longer daily-data plans, such as Jio’s ₹999 plan and Airtel’s ₹899 plan, are listed with unlimited 5G for eligible users, while small data-only or voice-only packs may not be.
The 4G allowance still matters
On the plans mentioned above, the daily data limit applies to the regular allowance, and speed drops to 64 Kbps after it is used. Whether 5G use is counted separately depends on the operator’s terms, so read them in the app.
Do not pick a plan only for the 5G line. Check that all three conditions are true for you.
